Red Cross Work Committee Reports Strong Fall Outreach

To end of October 176 cartons of clothing packed and 133 sent to Beirut Singapore Kenya Korea Laos Malawi Africa Haiti and Lebanon. The effort includes 46 801 articles packed this year 1 074 layettes and 841 afghans knitted. Volunteers sewed 51 600 yards of material creating warm clothes for many ages. Messages of gratitude from Singapore Haiti and Nairobi praise the aid and commitment of Manitoban Women’s Work Committee volunteers. Local Winnipeg shipments total 520 sewn articles 31 sweaters and 31 afghans with free transport from Hamiota Kenton Transfer. Seek sewers and knitters to help.

Hamiota Women’s Institute Reports Donations and Dated Sales

The Hamiota Women’s Institute met on Tuesday November 4 at 2 30 pm with 17 members and two visitors. The treasurer reported 12 11 on hand. They served a dinner for 4H district leaders and sold 45 Manitoba Centennial spoons with orders for more due by November 14. Mrs Robertson reported 12 afghans and 135 sewn articles sent to the Red Cross and more material received for distribution. A letter from the Red Cross described where the goods go. A blood donor clinic on November 13 was noted. A program titled Are You Listening was given by Mrs Dixon Mrs Bell and Miss Thornton on communication methods.

U C W Meet Oak River November meeting reports

The U C W at United Church Oak River held its November 4 meeting with 17 members. Treasurer Luella Bowman reported 612.43 in the bank and officers outlined in various organizations. They approved renewals for Observers, a bale sent to Red Sucker Lake, and a $50 contribution to the Bible Society.

Remembrance Day program discussed at UCW meeting

UCW members met at Mrs Norman Argue's home on November 5. The program included an article on The Poppy prepared with help from Mrs Bill Montgomery and Mrs Argue. Reports and business were led by President Mrs Lloyd Anderson. nominations will present a new slate in December.

W I Meet Oak River November Meeting Notes

The November meeting in Memorial Hall chaired by Mrs. F McPhaden discussed an upcoming local Art Show at the School Auditorium on November 15 from 3 to 5 pm. Mrs. Merle Power reported on Leadership School in Gimli held October 27 to 29 and an auction raised 12.50 from Home Baking.
