W I Regional Mini School Held in Rivers and District

A regional leadership school organized by the Women's Institutes of Rivers and Kirkham's Bridge on October 26 1976 at Rivers Civic Centre drew 58 members from 12 locals including Rivers Kirkham's Bridge Lenore Cardale Harding Crandall Isabella Arrow River Miniota Hamiota Strathclair and Oak River.

Workman's Compensation Levels Rises January

Manitoba will raise the maximum annual earnings used for workers compensation to 16 000 dollars from 15 000, effective January 1 1977. Labour Minister Russ Paulley said this makes Manitoba's basic earning ceiling the highest in Canada. The increase follows an annual review showing average earnings exceeded 15 000 in over 10 percent of cases, and raises the monthly maximum to 1 000 dollars from 937.50.

November Ladies Club Meeting at CHUMAH

The November gathering at Mrs. Louise Andrew home drew 13 members. Janie Lewis led business as vice president while Mrs. Pollock’s group led the devotional. Attendees sent thanks for rose bowls and planned safety meetings, December nursery quilt tickets, and a two minute Armistice Day tribute. A lunch followed hosted by Andrew Pollock and B. Smith.

First Swine Flu Vaccine Arrives in Manitoba

About 12 000 doses of bivalent influenza vaccine effective against the Victoria swine flu strain and New Jersey swine flu have been delivered to Manitoba for high risk groups. A second delivery is expected next week for ambulatory high risk persons. 31 000 doses of monovalent swine flu vaccine are stored for a potential mass campaign for ages 20 to 50 if cases recur. No cases have been reported since Fort Dix outbreak.

Drivers Warned to Stop for School Bus Lights

Winnipeg highways minister Peter Burtniak announced that new signs warn motorists not to pass school buses with flashing red lights. He noted most following buses stop, but many approaching buses do not. exemption exists on divided highways.
