National Park motor vehicle fees rise in Canada
Parks Canada raised daily fees for entering national parks for the first time since 1975. The standard daily permit is now 3 dollars, 4 dollars at Point Pelee with park transit, and annual permits remain 10 dollars. Free annual passes available for seniors 65 plus. Charter buses pay 30 dollars daily, school or charitable buses 6 dollars. Canada Day grants permanent free entry for all vehicles.

Wanda Dixon Wins 1985 Canadian Pharmacy Scholar Award
Wanda Dixon of Winnipeg is named the 1985 Canadian Pharmacy Centennial Scholar by the Canadian Pharmaceutical Association. She attends the University of Manitoba and will enter her final pharmacy year this fall. The nine scholars receive cash and travel to the CPhA National Conference in Halifax from May 26 to 29, with tours of government agencies pharmacies manufacturers and hospitals. The trip runs May 20 to 29 and is co sponsored by CPhA and 445 Shoppers Drug Mart and Pharmaprix stores nationwide.

Energy and Mines Minister Wilson Parasiuk released the 1984 Oil Activity Review detailing Manitoba oil sector gains. Production rose 8 percent to 793 284 cubic metres (5 million barrels) and value climbed 11 percent to $169 million with 246 wells drilled and 218 completed as producers. Seismic work totalled 3 225 km with $4 million spent. The report notes a 73 percent success rate from 48 wells to date and projects drilling above 200 wells in 1985, with production near 14 000 barrels daily and revenue forecasts of $180 million and $23 million in royalties and taxes.
