Hamiota Reds beat Angu sville Cardinals 7 2 in the first MLBI game heavy with debuts and new rules. Dennis Anderson earned the win with three innings closing. 50th Anniversary Decker Celebrations Highlight Weekend
On May 9 to 11 the United Church of Canada marked its 50th anniversary with events in Decker Memorial Hall and Shoal Lake. Friday featured a Peaksville Dance with Paul Rogers and The Music View delivering a versatile show to entertain all ages. Saturday invited district residents to join Shoal Lake celebrations with arts exhibits and community gatherings.

The United Church in Hamiota held a Mission dedication service on Family Sunday May 11 with M and S members Mrs A Gray and Mrs W Opra directing. Mr and Mrs Stan McKay spoke on their Winnipeg mission work among Indian people and life as an Indian in a predominantly white society. About seventy attended a slide presentation and Q and A in Cuniah Hall.

A two day shuffleboard event at the Hamiota Community Centre on May 1 and 2 drew 80 players across four lanes. In finals, Roy Kirk and Janet Johnstone won the Gulf Trophy and prize money after beating Roy Kirk and J Johnston in semis and M Davis with M Ward in B finals. hard luck prize went to R Gray and G Fleming. Gifts were given to organizers L Kerr and E Sunley, with thanks to R Gray and G Fleming for two years of arranging.
