Dennis Anderson pitched all nine innings to secure a 6 2 victory for the Hamiota Red Sox over Souris Cardinal. Smith hit his first homer of the year and Poole plus Wowryk Lead the attack as Hamiota tallied 10 hits. Anderson earned the win with 7 strikeouts and 6 hits allowed while Wertz took the loss for Souris. The Red Sox improve to 2 1 and 1 1 on the season and host McAuley Blazers and Grandview this weekend.

Oakner reports a community work bee at the Routledge farm aiding Ivan Routledge who was hospitalized after a bag in the sheep pen caused an accident. Leonard Allan Garth Strachan and Jim Steven organized the effort with Frank Bird announcing it on CKX-TV. Mary Routledge led food donations for 25 workers and a large equipment list supported by Lloyd Anderson.

Fire Strikes Campbell's Funeral Home At Noon
A two alarm fire damaged a wooden lean-to at the rear of Campbell's Funeral Home in Hamiota during the noon hour. Fire Chief Tom Thompson, alerted by owner Mr. Campbell, arrived with equipment from two engines. The blaze destroyed the lean-to and shed, cut hydropower, and caused roof damage. insured. Cause undetermined.

Legion Auxiliary Meeting Highlights at Hamiota
The Ladies Auxiliary to the Canadian Legion met in the Community Room at 8 p.m. May 27 with 19 members present. Minutes were read, treasurer’s report given, and get well cards sent to local hospital patients. They supported Bernard Miller’s April sale and will donate ten dollars to Peace Gardens for furniture. Debbie Pedlow and Julie McConnell plan to attend the Legion Athletic Camp at Peace Gardens August 17 to 23, with partial fee assistance from the auxiliary. Scholarships are awarded to two grade 11 pupils. the petty fund was won by Mrs. Katie Sparks. Amy Harrison moved to adjourn. the Queen was sung and a lunch served by Mesdames Phyllis McConnell and Jean Pedlow.

Falls Turned On Sunday Water Flow at Kakabeka Falls
In Ontario the 128 foot Kakabeka Falls known as the Niagara of the North runs only on Sundays as water is diverted for hydroelectric generation. On weekdays the flow is cut off and the river water is not released to the falls. The setup powers regional electricity needs via a nearby flume and dam system.
