Manitoba PUC backs lower natural gas price for Manitobans

Manitoba Mines Minister Wilson Parasiuk said the Public Utilities Board found Inter-City Gas rates excessive and discriminatory. The board set a fair price at 2 to 2.25 per thousand cubic feet, well below ICG’s 3.0. He cited US prices as low as 1.50 and urged action to protect consumers. The board granted interim ICG approval to November 1987 while changes are pursued.

Band plans busy summer in Hamiota

Hamiota School Band reports successful sales from Christmas bells and fruit projects at a May 19 1987 parents meeting in the Collegiate Library. The group travelled to Winnipeg February 23 for the Optimist Band Festival and plans a June 5 bottle and battery drive, a June 8 concert at 7 30 p.m. with a silver collection, a grocery hamper raffle to be drawn at the Hamiota Fair, an ice cream booth, and several parades planned through the summer.

Red Sox split pre season games with Dauphin and Virden

Hamiota Red Sox fall 11 to 10 to the Dauphin Brewers after an 8 to 4 lead. The teams split home and away affairs with Dauphin and Virden, winning 11 to 3 in Virden and losing 9 to 8 at home. MLB opener vs Souris on May 28 at 7 p.m.

Hamiota Business Club Hosts Best Ball Golf Tourney

The Hamiota Business Club held a Best Ball Foursome Golf Tournament on May 11 with 40 participants. Winners were Mac and Sheila Campbell Dave and Vivian Martinussen with even par on a count back. Second flights and special prizes were awarded to multiple pairs. awards honored honesty, humor, and difficulty in understanding Jean son.
