Spring Concert Presented In Hamiota
Hamiota School Bands held a spring concert on May 17 with 25 member School Band and 23 member Junior Band leading the program. Twenty three majorettes added to the show with prizes awarded to Carla Bridge Andrea Hanson Doris Davis and Indira Lall. Jody Kirk won the Birdtail River Festival Scholarship. Hugh Wilson will join the International Music Camp 1976 Good Will Tour in August with an 80 piece Symphonic Band and 60 voice Concert Choir visiting Canadian and European cities and some U.S. engagements. Recruitment for new band members occurred on Friday May 21 with instructors Tina Lawson Glenda Brethour and Rick Scott. Best wishes to Glenda Brethour in Souris and to Rick Scott as he continues studies next year.

W.I. Convention Held at Erickson May 1 with 164 Attendees
The Birtle District of M.W.I. held its convention at Erickson Collegiate on May 1 with 164 registered. Nine Institutes from the former Portage District participated, under the theme Unity is Strength. Speakers included Mrs. G. Hyndman, Mrs. Pearl Warren, Mrs. Marion Fulton, and Gail Watson. The program featured a memorial service, a noon banquet, and plans announced for the Provincial Convention in Brandon June 8 to 10.

Grain Sale Announced to USSR by Wheat Board Minister
Otto Lang announced a sale of 2 million long tons of wheat to the USSR for 1976 77 with shipments of No 1 and No 2 Canada Western Red Spring and Amber Durum from West Coast and St Lawrence ports. An option may ship part of the quantity to Cuba as wheat or flour.

Hamiota to Host Senior Playoff
Hamiota selected to host the Manitoba Saskatchewan regional senior baseball playoff with Souris and McAuley bidding. Playoff dates July 24 and 25 feature a Saskatchewan representative against an MSBL team in a best of three series. The winner advances to the Canadian championships in New Brunswick in August.
