Canvassers report mixed progress in funding for arena renovation in Hamiota. A $1000 gift from Hamiota Lions Club and five anonymous $500 donations bolster support, while many residents voice hesitations about the project and its timing.
On Tuesday May 11 Royal York Chapter No 300 E S celebrated its 37th anniversary. W M Marjorie Hadland welcomed visitors from Birtle Foxwarren Oak Lake and Rivers. A history by Helen Hepworth read by Anne Funk. Elsie Rogers welcomed back. Visiting chapters offered greetings. P G P John Brown spoke briefly. Ester Bott reported on Alberta chapter visits. A social hour followed with gifts and birthday cake.
Manager Al Robertson says the Hamiota Red Sox look stronger than last year with Ellis Woods at thirdMike Labossiere at short Ron Ramsey at second and Bob Caldwell at first. The outfield returns Brent Montague Doug McPhail and possibly Mel Smith after his eye injury.
The Hamiota Art Club held a May 15 show with 124 paintings in oils charcoal and other media. Mrs. P. August opened the event and corsages were given to instructors Mrs. D. Lee and Mrs. A. Perlmutter. Teas and a raffle drew 299 visitors. the day's assets totaled 278 dollars.
On May 12 a party in the Chumah district honored Mr and Mrs Matthew McLaen for their 25th wedding anniversary. Relatives and friends attended as Myra Preston read a congratulatory address and gifts were exchanged from Laura and Matt to mark the milestone.
