Hamiota Elementary School fifth and sixth graders perform Alice in Wonderland in the King and Queen of Hearts courtroom. Each character recounts encounters with Alice in song and verse as two shows unfold with different casts. June 5 at Hamiota Collegiate admission 2.00 for adults 1.00 for students preschool free.
Ethel Robertson Resource Coordinator reports on summer plans at Hamiota including outdoor walk program starting June 3 at 10 15 from Park and Lilac Residence. Volunteers needed to push wheelchairs and accompany walkers. A seniors picnic is noted on page five and a crokinole regional playoff occurred May 7 in Strathclair with results listed.
On May 21 1992 the Hamiota District Sports Complex hosted a bake sale that raised 1170 dollars. Volunteers donors bakers and buyers contributed as the group plans paint bleachers plexiglass and cistern work. Further bake sales are anticipated to fund these improvements.
Eleven golfers braved high winds and dust for the season’s first Ladies Night. In 1st Flight Connie Gordon won, Joyce Lief 2nd, Dora Steven 3rd. 2nd Flight went to Helen Wiltsey, Kay Brooks, Barb Fedorowich. 3rd Flight crowned Ethel Bates, Ella Mathison, Marie Brooks. Helen Wiltsey had the shortest drive, Dora Steven the longest. Hamburgers and doughnuts were served by Denise Murray and Jennifer Baragar. Upcoming events include Men’s Night May 27 and Mixed Night June 3.
The Midwest Recreation office in Hamiota asks active groups to fill an organization information sheet. Submit planned events and dates to help promote communities through calendars and promotions. Contact the office at 764-2374 for forms and include comments on programs of interest.
The 1st Hamiota Boy Scouts held their Trees for Canada event on May 9 1992 in Hamiota. Beavers Cubs Scouts and leaders from the Oak River District planted 1600 trees in a nursery plot east of the trailer court in about one hour. The trees include spruce pine maple lilac and popular varieties slated for later transplant to the campground sports complex golf course schools village and RM properties. Organizers thank the Village of Hamiota for land Bill Rutherford for tilling the soil and residents of Hamiota Kenton and Car dale for support and encouragement.
