Manitoba to Build Modern Radiotherapy Centre in Winnipeg

The Manitoba Cancer Foundation unveiled plans for a new radiotherapy centre near Winnipeg General Hospital, Children's Hospital, and the Medical College to provide free, state of the art cancer treatment with high energy x rays and electron beams. Funding will largely come from surplus Blue Cross funds, with hospital support and compassionate facilities for patients. The project aims to centralize ancillary departments and offer a leading therapy service in North America.

Increased Resort Lot Rents In Manitoba Government Areas

Manitoba government owned resort areas raise five year rental rates to cover higher costs of services. Hon. C. H. Government Team to Assess Flood Damage

Farmers with flood damaged permanent buildings should file estimates with their municipal office. Claims go to government appraisers J. G Sinclair and Lawrence Smith under a supervising committee led by J. Griffiths. An engineering group will assess damage to bridges, drainage works, and related structures.

Birth of a New Empress on CPR Flagship

Canada: A $23 million flagship named Empress of Canada was launched May 10 at Vickers Armstrongs, Newcastle, by Mrs. John G. Diefenbaker. The 27 500 ton 1 050 passenger liner will serve UK to Montreal routes, joining Empress of England and Empress of Britain on trans Atlantic service. About 15 000 spectators witnessed the christening with a bottle of Canadian red wine. The vessel will stay in dry dock for sea trials before entering service in 1961.
