Provincial Lord's Day Act Sets Sunday Sport Rules

The Lord's Day Act comes into effect May 23 allowing non profits to run Sunday games and concerts 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. with municipal bylaw approval. Prohibitions include horse racing auto races boxing and wrestling. movies excluded. By-Laws can limit types and time, with repeal and petition rules and Sunday access for bona fide clubs.

Mobile Fish Lab Debuts To Back Prairie Industry

The Canadian Department of Fisheries rolls out a mobile fish inspection laboratory this summer to aid the Prairie Provinces, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Alberta and the Northwest Territories. The 34 foot truck will visit Gimli The Pas Flin Flon Prince Albert Lac La Rouge Meadow Lake Edmonton Hay River with three staff to perform bacteriological and chemical tests and share results by air to plants.

Manitoba foresters direct a four year effort to plant one million trees in the Sandilands and Spruce Woods reserves near Shilo and White Shell. Nursery output funds shelterbelts and farm stock with 40,000 seedlings ordered by farmers.

Trap Net Experiment Planned for Lake Winnipeg

Riverton Boat Works nears completion on a 42 foot trap net boat for Manitoba Fisheries. Hon. C. H. Witney says the summer trial aims to boost selective fishing, improve fish quality, reduce rough fish, and test costs and feasibility for future use.
