Lynn Gibbons led a Women’s Support Group workshop on Images of Women The Hidden Message at Hamiota Health Centre from 10 30 to 4 30. Attendees examined ads portraying women as sexual objects and lack of agency, discussed effective complaint methods, and explored pornography’s societal impact including economic factors and violence. A film Not a Love Story was shown and next meeting on June 9 at 7 30 in Kenton School featuring Sex Role Stereotyping in the schools.

Rainy evening did not deter 23 golfers. Jean McKinnon won first flight with 45, Sally MacDonald led second flight, Laura Stephens topped third. Prizes awarded for hidden hole, closest to pin, longest drive, and half and half split. Next Ladies Golf Nite set for June 8 with Family Day on June 5.

Plans advance for Hamiota new rink construction
The Hamiota committee reports progress on a new rink with an architect hired to prepare drawings and tender plans. Foundations and shell are the first phase with bids expected by September 22 1988 and construction possible by October 1 1988 if about 600000 is secured. Funds from pledges may be liquidated to cash, with bake sales raffles and events planned, and race to raise more funds via low or zero interest loans sought from locals.
