A 1967 casualty simulation conducted May 17 near Oak River involved 12 Oak River Collegiate students as mock victims. The Oak River Fire Department and Hamiota Hospital Disaster Plan coordinated the drill with rapid on scene response and organized hospital treatment.
Neighbors gathered at Mrs. Percy Davis home to honor Mrs. Arnold Christmann who plans to move to Winnipeg in June. Gifts included a salad bowl servers and tray while a poem by Mrs. Morris and reading by Miss Cormack expressed regret. A lunch followed after singing For She's a Jolly Good Fellow.
Blue House captured the most points at the local track meet held May 11 and 12, with Karen Anderson and Glenda Kirk tying for top female athlete and Gordie Allan leading the boys. May 17 qualifiers competed in Shoal Lake Division meet. 70 Hamiota students earned 75 ribbons and 47 advanced to the Zone Meet in Virden May 27.
The May meeting of the UCW was hosted by Rev. and Mrs. D. Holtzman in Strathclair. Mrs. W. Cochran led a prayer and Rev. Holtzman conducted the worship. A business session followed with slides shown of the Holtzmans’ Black Hills trip and the Passion Play.
The Manitoba Provincial Exhibition plans to recognize families who have continuously owned their farms for 75 years. Eligible families must be direct descendants and actively operate the farm. Applications detail farm legal description and ownership dates, with verification by the Agriculture Department and Land Titles. Entry forms are available from the Provincial Exhibition Manager in Brandon.
The Hamiota Red Sox crushed Souris 12 to 4 in Friday Manitoba Senior Baseball League action. Don Smith quadroupled hits led Hamiota with four at bats four hits two singles a triple and a home run. Gary Keating pitched six innings allowing two runs while Brian Smith finished the last three innings.
The Hamiota Band, newly organized for a year, directed by Mr. Ted Good and assisted by Ron Houck, performed Friday night in the school auditorium to an appreciative audience. The Centennial Glee Club and local youth also featured with selections from The Sound of Music and traditional tunes, with solos by Royce Riddell and others. The event, emceed by Mr. Harvey Brown, showcased student talent and supported by involved parents, and invites attendance at Field Day and the upcoming fair.
Birdtail River School Division 38 met at Miniota and Shoal Lake May 1967 to discuss closing Grades X to XII at Miniota Collegiate. Trustees approved borrowing bylaw 5.67 for 400000.09 and set next meeting for May 16 1967 while adjourning to May 25.
