Mrs Stewart Gordon Passes Away in Ontario
Mrs Stewart Gordon nee Laura Van Norman formerly of Hamietsa died at Kincardine Ontario on April 14 in her 79th year. She is survived by her brother Robert and sister Josephine of Brantford Ontario. Funeral service was held at Linkletter Funeral Parlor and interment in Montreal Pleasant Cemetery Toronto.

Lynne L. Robinson of McConnell was guest of honor at a miscellaneous bridal shower held May 6 in McConnell Community Hall. The event featured pink and white décor, corsages, a nurse’s aid costume, and a decorated wagon of gifts. Speech and songs accompanied the celebration as guests and school friends shared a lunch.

McConnell 4-H Calf Club Holds Regular Meeting
The McConnell Beef Club reports 108 S.M.V. signs sold to date at the ninth regular meeting on May 9 at McConnell School. Sign deliveries are slow due to supplier shortages. The club plans to attend the McConnell Centennial Reunion in uniform and run a booth.

Thimble Cookies Plan Achievement Night
The eighth Thimble Cookies meeting on May 12 in the Community Room opened with O Canada the pledge and motto. Twenty five members attended with seven leaders present. We reviewed minutes and discussed Achievement decorations and plans. We have 129 23 in the bank. Heather McKay of Oak River invited us to their Achievement Night on May 12. We voted to invite Oak River to our event. The meeting adjourned after practicing demonstrations for Achievement Night. Achievement Night is set for Tuesday May 23 at 8 p.m.

Women's Institute Holds May Meeting In Hamiota
The Hamiota Women's Institute met in May with a Creed themed program about Christian faith ending with a call to kindness. Members discussed institute aims to improve homes and communities, and social work included Red Cross outreach and a donations plan for the Pennies for Friendship district fund.
Oak River Institute Holds Closing Exercises Commencement
Oak River Collegiate Institute held its final social event of the year, the Commencement, on Friday May 5 at Oak River United Church basement. The ceremony featured toasts, awards, a valedictory by Maureen McPhaden, a guest speech by Cameron Henry, glee club performances, and a Centennial themed dance with elaborate decorations.
