Manitoba Masons Hold Annual Church Service
In Hamiota on May 16 1971 the Grand Lodge of Manitoba af am masons led a parade of over 200 members to the United Church for their annual church service Rev Ralph Clark presided Guest speaker R War Cannon Winnipeg Grand Chaplain Gordon Fairclough spoke on the altar The Hamiota United Church choir accompanied by Mrs Ed nth Park and Mrs Ken Stinson organ The service drew masons from across Manitoba an overflow of about 50 sat in Chumah Hall served by public address system U C W Oakner and Hamiota ladies funded the post service refreshments with offerings over 200 shared by Oakner and Hamiota congregations.

St John First Aid Course Sponsored by Society
Thirty five high school pupils, firemen and bus drivers attended the St John Ambulance Society first aid course. Lessons were given to students in the afternoon and to adults in the evening by Percy Roszman, a representative from St John Ambulance.

UCW Meeting Notes and Upcoming Sioux Valley Trip

Explorers Meet Oak River Weekly Session
The Explorer meeting convened Monday May 10 with 10 members present as the secretary read prior minutes. The group planned the May 17 gathering and discussed communication and media topics including television and picture shows. Walk-a-thon Raises Over $500 in Hamiota
The Collegiate Student Council hosted a Sunday walk raising over five hundred dollars with about seventy participants. Five completed the 28 mile round trip including Ron Lawrence and Kelvin Anderson. Don Sheridan and Mary Lou Hodge won track shoes for best time and top fundraiser respectively.

1971 Mill Rate Shows Reduction for Rural Manitoba
Estimates indicate a 4.4 mill reduction on farm and residential property in the Rural Municipality. Village estimates show a 7.7 mill cut for farm and residential properties and a 4.6 mill reduction for commercial properties.

MacDonald Air Base Sold to New Rosedale Colony
Winnipeg report states the 1 160 acre Macdonald Air Base northwest of Portage la Prairie was sold for 271000 to the New Rosedale Hutterian Brethren colony. Public Works minister Borowski announced the sale after three bids on the whole property, with many bids on parcels but lower totals. The colony will assume control of the site as soon as possible.

The Hamiota Hospital District 7A Aid and Staff Tea Bake Sale and Bazaar at the Fraternal Hall on May 7 drew generous support from donors and volunteers. The Hamiota Happy Helping Hands Achievement fundraiser featured the octopus garden mural by Francine Fleming Cheryl Mennie and Sharon Carlson. President Leslee Sheardown led a well attended program with musical numbers and awards including six year seals five year certificates and a transfer of leadership to Mrs Earl Gregory.
