Local Resident Finishes Course at Manitoba Program
Mrs M Amy Grant was among twenty one graduates of a four year course in Municipal Accounting Administration Law and Public Relations offered by the University of Manitoba and partners. Graduation followed a banquet at the Marlborough Hotel Winnipeg where certificates were presented by Professor G Bains with assistance from Wm F Frame and Charles Teetaert. The RM of Woodworth Kenton’s R M Woodworth Kenton also had a graduate, bringing the class of 1971 to ninety four graduates.

The Explorers led by Mrs. R Clark Mrs Art Morris and Mrs Lorne Caldwell completed five projects on life religion and Brazil. They held meetings from October to May with events at Park Lodge skating party and Chumah Hall final gathering. Officers elected include Elaine Routledge president and Maureen Mathison secretary treasurer.

The Isabella WI held its May gathering at Mrs. R. Still’s home with Mrs. Still presiding. Members discussed the Provincial Convention in Winnipeg, announced delegates J Coxworth and J T Finkbeiner, and planned Hospital Aid Tea bake sale for May 7 in Hamiota. An article on blenders from Canadian Consumers was read. Displayed Afghan contributions and district convention reports were shared by R Still and J T Finkbeiner. Hostesses were Mrs. R Doran and Mrs. C Wall.

Happy Helping Hands plan events this May
Hamiota group Happy Helping Hands held its eighth meeting on Friday May 7 with president Leslie Sheardown presiding. Final plans were set for an Achievement event on May 11 at the elementary school. A tour of Sioux Valley handicraft and Brandon Vocational School is planned for May 22. The rally will be held in Birtle on May 29. Meeting adjourned.

The Birdtail River School Division No. 38 held a board meeting at Crandall on May 6 1971 at 8 00 p.m. Attendees included trustees Waddell Butcher Fulton Rapley Hames Falloon Hyndman Randell Armitage and Lewycky. Discussions covered capital outlay approvals sidewalk work at St Lazare reforms, agency commissions, and use of facilities for multiple events. Decisions included sidewalk payment to H Komhyr Construction, reduced Route No. 73 pay, resignations and new hires for janitor helpers, relocation of Grades VI and VIII to Hamiota Collegiate facilities from Sept 1 1971, and adjournment to May 20 1971 at 8 00 p.m. The minister of education indicated no special transportation grants for handicapped students.

The Explorers assembled Tuesday May 4 1971 with seven members present. Mrs A Sclater read a story and the group discussed communication. Worship and songs followed by a collection. Closing ceremonies concluded the meeting and games were played.

UCW Meeting at Mrs Rank’s Home On May 6
The UCW met at the home of Mrs. John Rankin on May 6 with thirteen members and two visitors present. Devotions led by Mrs. Charlie Johnson and Mrs Rankin focused on Springtime. Mrs. Norman Argue led business as letters of appeal were read and committees filed monthly reports. A cent donation scheme was used to raise funds for a shoe sized double. Preparations were made to provide lunch for the Masonic Service in Hamiota on May 16. The evening ended with a lunch hosted by Mrs Bates and Mrs Walter Riddell.

The Oak River Women's Institute held its regular meeting on May 5 1971 with 13 members and 11 visitors.
