CARDALE W I Met in United Church Basement May 19
The W I group met in the United Church basement on May 19 with 12 members and 2 visitors. Laurice English spoke on My Little Brother after winning Reserve Champion in public speaking. Delegates were chosen for the Winnipeg convention June 7 to 10 and Strathclair district reports were given. An electric frying pan was bought as a gift for Mr. Norm Bullock who lost his home to fire.

CF B at Rivers to be used as Indian Training Centre
The Canadian Forces Base at Rivers Manitoba will be taken over by Indian Affairs to operate as an on the job training centre for Indian individuals and families. A managing corporation will run facilities for up to 250 trainees with hangar space leased to on site industries and DACUM curriculum planning. The project aims to integrate training with private industry and community services beginning 1971 with 50 trainees and expanding to 250 by 1973.

B R D Division Teachers Society Holds AGM
The B R D Division Teachers Society held its annual general meeting at the Shoal Lake Auditorium on Thursday May 20 with about 90 teachers present. Ed Kowalchuk, society president, spoke on provincial executive activities unemployment insurance public relations and the teacher’s community role. Officers elected for 1971 72 included Joyce Simms Birtle R Poole Hamiota and R Edberg J Wiens Birtle. A budget of 1484 dollars was approved prioritizing teacher welfare public relations and liaison. The door prize transistor radio was won by Beverly Wotton Birtle Elementary Birtle.

Red Sox fall to Dauphin Red Birds in league opener
In Dauphin the Red Sox were routed 9 to 0 as Dauphin scored nine in a third inning on a 42 minute at bat. Ron Ramsey pitched well until the third, and Dauphin added three more in the fourth. Hamiota committed few errors and made four hits, while late ninth inning efforts were erased by umpires.

Hamiota swept success across Mosquito A and B divisions and Beaver and Bantam squads. Mosquito A, led by Dallas Strachan, Donnie MacDonald and Dallas Shayman, beat Rapid City 21-20 with Strachan’s grand slam and multiple homers. Darryl Dixon and Russell VanBuskirk fueled the win with key hits and VanBuskirk two singles. Mosquito B dropped 11-6 to Minnedosa as Ron Meakin homered. Beaver edged McAuley 10-9, Rivers 23-16, then fell to Virden 22-5. Gary Webber sparked a late surge with a triple. Bantams beat Virden 5-1 behind Ronnie Knight and Dov Mathison, with Knight compiling two hits and a homer, and Dono driving in four.

U C W May Meeting At Mrs Decker Home
The May meeting of UCW was held May 19 at Mrs Decker's home with 12 members and one visitor. The president opened with a poem Our Gardens. Group H led the worship service and UCW sponsored the Shoal Lake Glee Club. Mrs Paul Robinson spoke on UCW work at local and area levels and unit challenges. Meeting closed with the UCW Purpose and lunch served by the committee.
