Wheat Board Advisory Committee meeting report 1981
The Wheat Board Advisory Committee met April 27 1981 with ten members four commissioners and senior staff from the Wheat Board and Grain Transportation office. Production and export totals for most grains rise from last year with Canola an exception. Prices are stable and likely to stay so unless worldwide weather shifts. Western Canada moisture prospects look brighter than a year ago while U.S.S.R. and U.S.A. weather is reasonably good. Transportation can move about 25 million tonnes to export, quotas are rising toward year end, and labour contracts may pose a limited risk. Churchill will be used on a reduced scale due to lower grain availability. 250 000 tonnes moved to Churchill at a loss of 2 million dollars versus Thunder Bay shipping. Pooling Canola unloads at Vancouver discussed. Alberta cars allegedly loaded with canola without authorization. quota system may shift to favor highly productive areas. Next meeting set for May 27 1981.
