Publisher Echo Herald Times urges correspondents and advertisers to submit news copy and ads for the May 21 edition by noon Saturday May 16 to allow staff to observe the long weekend holiday.
MAST supports the Ministerial Advisory Committee on Liquor Control recommendation to raise Manitoba's legal drinking age from eighteen to nineteen. Myrtle Zimmerman states trustees are pleased the committee considered school boards' concerns and MAST will present convention resolutions to the Minister of Education on May 19.
Winnipeg invites the public to tour North America's only inland cruise ship the M S Lord Selkirk II on Victoria Day May 18 from 1 30 to 3 30 p m at Selkirk docks. Captain Wynford Goodman and crew will greet visitors and explain ship features.
Manitoba Agriculture Minister Jim Downey announces plans to honor Century farms that have stayed in the same family since 1881 or earlier. Eligible farms must be at least 50 acres and direct descendants of the original operator. Nominations open through agricultural officials or by mail to Manitoba Agriculture in Winnipeg, with a deadline of August 15, 1981.
The Hire A Student office serving Shoal Lake Hamiota Oak River Kenton Oakburn and Miniota is now open. Shauna McKinnon manages the office now in her second year and welcomes summer employment interest with registrations underway. The program funded by the Province and village offers student employment screening referrals and employer matching.
The Manitoba Hospital Auxiliary Association held its Southwest Regional Conference at Erskine Presbyterian Church in Killarney with coffee, reports from Spar region auxiliaries, and a keynote by Dr. George Dow on hypertension. Sharon Baskerville chaired the day and welcomed guests including MHAA President Joy Hood and Regional Director Marjorie Klimczak.
The Birtle Collegiate hosts a Volleyball Players Camp August 21 to 23 offering top instruction from national and college coaches and local high school staff. Limited to 36 players with meals and lodging included. for details contact Ann L. Carson Barteaux, Box 425, Birtle.
