The Wheat Board Advisory Committee met April 30 1980 with eleven members five Commissioners and senior Wheat Board staff. Producer deliveries rose 7.5 percent and exports 8.5 percent from last year with total yearly exports likely to exceed previous year. Transportation to Thunder Bay and the West coast improved and grain car numbers increase monthly as hoppers and box cars come into service. Labour problems are minor this year and straight grain gangs may be set up by Donn Mitchell Longshoreman's Union on the West coast. Prices decline and factors such as the US Russian embargo and the upcoming US election are suspected. Board notes no change to policy on the Russian embargo and world crop prospects remain uncertain for four to six weeks. A protein grade of No 1 CW 13.5 percent or better will be used next crop year. Discussions on trucking to terminals and plant quotas continue with varied opinions. A weather patterns paper was seen and not encouraging. The Productivity Symposium for Saskatoon in late October 1980 was discussed with some decisions made. Next meeting set for May 27 1980.
The Rolling River School Division board on April 24 approved finance and transportation committee recommendations. Staff reductions at one school changed to 5 for 1980 81, bus routes reduced in Forrest, and a new mechanic hired. A teacher leave and three resignations were approved. Outdoor education trip for Rivers Elementary grades 7 8 to Camp Manito June 23 25 was authorized.
