Local Arena Renovation plan gains support in Hamiota

Community leaders seek $150000 to install artificial ice add two dressing rooms and a tractor shed and renovate the basement. Ninety two percent at a meeting supported renovations if costs avoid new taxes. A community canvass aims for 200 donors of $500 each to raise the initial $100000 with further donations from organizations to cover the remaining $50000.

Shuffleboard Tournament Boosts Hamiota Club Participation

The Hamiota Shuffleboard Club held its tournament starting April 27 with 80 members, up from 30 teams in 1974 and 40 teams this year. Winners in A were Jack Houck and Gladys Fleming. B winners were George Vincent and Kate Sunley, with Houck and Fleming prevailing 35 to 28 in the final. The club awarded trophies back to 1971 and noted long-time members and presidents over the years. Ross Poole photographed the event for the club history book, and Steve Konowalchuk donated meals for winners.

Festival Winners NEEPAWA Prize to Jody Kirk in Neepawa

Jody Kirk won the Instrumental trophy at the Neepawa festival with a top score of 88 tying Rick Fraser. Jody and Hugh Wilson advance to the April 30 provincial finals. Nineteen Hamiota students competed. Alan Dixon and others earned top placements. The article notes concerns about small band sizes and urges continued participation and support for band programs.

Fourth Annual Achievement Held at Hamiota School

The Hamiota event on April 26 at the elementary school featured a Nursery Rhymes theme. Myrna Bryant welcomed attendees, with a 4-H pledge, club selections, and remarks by leaders and judges. A fashion show by Sewing A, solos by Melanie Kirk Maureen Stewart and Kerry Asselstine, and red ribbon awarded to Neil Gregory framed the program.
