W I meeting outlines charity and community events

The W I met at Mc Connell Community Centre on April 19 with seven members and three visitors. They approved sending $10 to the Cancer Society, planned a May 8 cleanup, May 6 lunch at an auction, and a butterfly quilt raffle for June 1. Members will attend a convention May 1 and bring plant slips for May 4.

Don Park to Head Men's Curling Club

The Hamiota Men's Curling Club held its annual meeting and banquet with 79 attendees. Outgoing president Lynn Caldwell passed the presidency to Don Park, naming Earl Brooks and Al Asselstine to new posts, while Harold McLaren donated Sr. A trophies to several members and Don Park awarded club championship trophies to four winners. The club logged expenses of 21,261.96 and receipts of 25,877.28 with major costs listed.

Senior Citizens Close Season in Hamiota

On Wednesday April 14 the Hamiota Senior Citizens held their final afternoon of the season. Cards were played and Mr Don Pollock entertained with his tape recorder. Pollock has previously brought his pupils to perform, which was greatly appreciated.

Eastern Star members support cancer care and Heart Fund

Royal York Chapter No. 30, Order of the Eastern Star, still make cancer bed pads for home care and send them via the Canadian Cancer Society in Winnipeg. The Shoal Lake Strathclair Heart Fund campaign totals $510.10. A May 15 tea in Ukrainian Hall invites all, with gifts to Mesdames Anderson Butler Mundell and a chocolate drawing for six attendees.

Ceramic Tea Stirs Success at Hamiota Community Centre

The Hamiota Ceramic Tea on April 24 drew over 200 visitors. Rev. Lynas gave an opening address and encouragement. Jean Lynas won a macrame plant hanger and pots. Prospective members were invited to contact Inza Houck or Connie Oprak for fall enrollment.

The Ladies Legion Auxiliary met in the Community Room on April 19 with thirteen members present.

C.G.I.T. Babysitting Course Graduates With Certificates

Oak River meeting details a eight week babysitting course with nine attendees who all passed a leadership test. Certificates were issued at the 4-H Achievement night. Lorraine Miller reported on Oak Lake rally. Elkhorn Auxiliary won the Shield for increased 1975 membership.

Festival of Music Opens May Fourth in Hamiota

The Hamiota festival begins Tuesday morning May 4 with three piano sessions at the Elementary School. Brandon University music staff adjudicate Wednesday and Thursday for instrumental bands and vocal choirs. Final Friday concert includes adjudicated vocal class and trophy divisions for chorus and solos. The Hi Lites Festival in Brandon will present the Birdtail River scholarship and three performance tapes.

Morris McGregor presented the Hamiota Girls Senior Basketball team with Official Manitoba Sports Pins for winning the Manitoba Provincial C Championship last month.
