Pee Wee Provincial D Gold Medal Winners Named

Hamiota hosts the Pee Wee D provincial playoffs March 20 to 22 with nine teams including Ile Des Chenes and Ashern. Opening ceremonies featured local officials and All-Star selections with plaques donated by the Lions Club. A skills contest crowned winners in skating stick handling shutout goaltending and shooting.

It Only Takes a Second Farm Safety Video Premiere

In December and January a farm safety video was shown to Hamiota Kenton Miniota and Oak River schools to gather feedback. A 35 minute video titled It Only Takes a Second features local students and will be premiering on April 9 1992 at 7 30 p m in Plumas Community Hall. The Waldersee Agricultural Safety Society organized the event and the Hamiota District Health Centre will purchase the video for viewing.

Daylight Saving Time Begins in Manitoba

In Manitoba daylight saving time starts on the first Sunday in April. Clocks move forward at 2:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. Sunday, April 5th, under the Time Act, with the period running until the last Sunday in October.

Standoff Ends Peacefully at Miniota Farmhouse

On March 25 1992 Hamiota R C M P officers from multiple detachments surrounded a Miniota RM farmhouse after a male resident barricaded himself inside. Negotiations continued for about five hours and the situation ended safely with no names released.

Hamiota Atoms win silver in provincial hockey tournament

The Hamiota Atoms 11 and under hockey team travelled to Somerset for a provincial D tournament March 6 to 8. They opened with a 16 1 win over Lynn Lake, then a 6 4 victory over Pilot Mound, and a 5 3 win against Ile Des Chenes to reach the final. Ebb and Flow defeated Hamiota 5 3 in the championship, earning silver. Trent Hirst led with multiple goals and Brant Scott and Adam Duncan shared goaltending duties, with coaches Bruce Johnston Ron Ramsey and Brian Kirk guiding the squad.
