Birdtail River School Division budgets for 1992 93

The Birdtail River School Division No. 38 sets an operating budget of 8.11 million dollars for 1992 93, a 5.13 percent rise, and a capital budget of 1.36 million. Expenditures allocate mainly to salaries and benefits, with funds directed to four program areas: early years to senior years instructional organization, career guidance, technology, and music. The new funding formula increases provincial dollars by 233,020 to 5.43 million, funded also by federal, local taxes, and other sources, with mill rate changes and an Education Support Levy. Eastern Star Reports Memorials and Upcoming Events

Eastern Star notes from Shoal Lake by Irene R. Strickland recount a January memorial service for Jeanette Moss past Manitoba Grand Matron born in Rossburn and schooled in Strathclair. Contingent actions include honoring Armer Girling as Grand Representative of Maryland in Manitoba and rescheduling the February 19 meeting to February 27 due to inclement weather. The group plans a trophy gift for the Sacred Solo Division at Birdtail River Festival and funds a white crochet donation for a Baltimore surgery fundraiser. Invitations list trips to Regina, Washington, and Delaware in June to Northern Manitoba chapters. Strathclair members completed Heart and Stroke canvassing in February. A memorial service honored Lucy Watson life member, and Dorothy Switzer received recognition for three years as Grand Trustee of Manitoba.

Library Corner Brings 30 Video Block to Brandon Branch

Public Library Service in Brandon offers a new block of 30 videos for patrons. Highlights include Little Mermaid and Three Caballeros, plus classics like Letter starring Bette Davis. Also featured are child friendly titles such as Little Prince and practical guides like microwaving the microwhiz way. Videos are free to borrow and may be kept from one library day to the next.

World Day of Prayer Service at Crandall U C W

Crandall United Church Women held the World Day of Prayer service on March 6 with Vel Coupe leading and all members participating. The service, written by Austria, Germany, and Switzerland, urged Living Wisely with Creation and caring for the planet. Hazel Henderson provided piano accompaniment as Ada Flemming spoke on the women's countries and environmental efforts. A lunch and fellowship followed.
