Hamiota Minor Hockey Fundraiser Reaches Penny Milestone

In November 1989 the Hamiota Minor Hockey Association started a penny drive for a new rink. 84 135 pennies have been saved. The fundraiser closes next week and donations can be given to Arm strong Agencies or by calling Mavis at 764-2013 before April 17.

Senior mixed bonspiel results at Hamiota curling club

The Hamiota Senior Mixed Curling Club wrapped up the season with a bonspiel from March 30 to April 1 open to 55 and over. Forty eight rinks competed. Fred Ritchie and his Virden rink won, with finalists from Oak River, Hamiota, Virden, Rivers, and other local clubs.

NAWMP habitat plan forms local Shoal Lake liaison group

Nine local farm producers join the North American Waterfowl Management Plan liaison committee for the Shoal Lake area to advise on field programs that improve wetland habitat. The group includes farmers Dean Ashcroft and others with technical staff from Ducks Unlimited Canada, North American Wildlife Foundation, MHHC, and PFRA. Meetings have occurred in October and February with plans to meet quarterly and report farmer and community reactions while promoting Prairie Care and Adopt-A-Pothole programs. Hamiota volunteers recognized for fostering international exchange

Hamiota residents Bruce and Mary Cochran are praised by Educational Foundation for Foreign Study for outstanding volunteer work in coordinating high school exchanges. The Cochran family helps host international students, recruit families, and support youth cultural learning, with applications open for the 1992/93 year.

Hamiota Agricultural Society centennial supper dance held

The Hamiota Agricultural Society marked 100 years with a Centennial Supper and Spring Frolic on March 28 1992 at the Community Centre. One hundred sixty guests enjoyed roast beef, MAAS officials spoke, a plaque was unveiled, and the Olson Orchestra provided the dance music.

Waste management study to be conducted in Brandon

Brandon Economic Development Board will study environmental and economic factors public attitudes and potential business opportunities in waste management with a 41000 grant from Environmental Innovations Fund The study aims to create a decision making framework for a regional waste system for the southwest region of the province It will profile current municipal waste systems assess public perception review volunteer recycling activities outline regional system options and analyze environmental and economic implications regional networks and disposal initiatives are in various stages of development throughout the province
