New Secretary Treasurer Appointed for Rural Municipality

Hamiota Manitoba reports the Rural Municipality and Village Councils appoint Lionel L. Brown of Gladstone to serve as Secretary Treasurer for both authorities starting June 15 1972. Brown brings six years in municipal field and four years as Pine Creek School Division secretary treasurer. The post fills the vacancy from the retirement of William T Bill Andrew after forty two years in the role.

Reach for the Top team reaches Western Manitoba semi finals

The Ham iota Collegiate Institute Reach for the Top team with Robert Stevenson Doug Argue Kelvin Anderson and Wendy Stevens advances to the Western Manitoba series semi finals. A CKX TV live broadcast rehearsal is scheduled for April 4 at 2 15 p.m. at the local Collegiate for the team and other H C S students and staff.

HAMIOTA March 25 the Huskies honoured two longtime hockey fans Grandma Caldwell and Mr Joe Kirk at the Fraternal Hall banquet Coach Harvey Pollock presented lifetime passes to all Huskies games in Hamiota Grandma Caldwell and Uncle Joe Kirk were praised for years of support The event featured presentations by Dick Prawdzik Garth Sararas Harold Irwin Harvey Pollock and Bob Henderson with smiles and comic awards to players by Mel Smith and Terry Good.

Card Party Held at Fraternal Hall Hamiota

The Rebekah and Forester Lodges sponsored a card party in the Fraternal Hall on Friday March 24 1972. Winners were Ladies first Lizzie ONeill and second Mrs Barnes Gentlemen first Harvey Gray second Bert Decker. Lunch was served and all enjoyed the event, final party of the season.

Lady Curlers Hold Meeting in Oak River

O R L C C held its wind up curling and annual meeting on March 23 with 18 members and one visitor. 1972 executives include Helen Clubb president Donna Hume vice president Hazel Westbrook secretary Marjorie Walden treasurer.

Farm Notes Pesticide Safety Discussion

Dr Glenn Findley opened the evening with an illustrated talk on the safety and merits of old versus new pesticides. The discussion described how toxicity is measured in labs by the amount needed to kill 50 percent of rats.

Shower Honors Miss Lynda Johnston in Chumah Hall

A miscellaneous shower in Chumah Hall honored Miss Lynda Johnston on March 25. Gifts were presented in a miniature hospital bed by Loren Anderson and Diana Bomford, with thanks given and invitations issued for a tea on April 3 and a dance on April 8. Musical entertainment was provided by the Mathison family.

Birdtail River School Board Holds March Meeting

The Birdtail River School Division No. 38 trustees met March 23 1972 at 7 00 p m with Waddell Fulton Rapley Hyndman Arm itage Hames Falloon Lewycky Mulake and Clark present and Inspectors Decosse Partridge and Principal Bisson in attendance Issues included staff French instruction in St Lazare plans for a parent survey on French balance of French and English in grades 1 3 and budget matters The board adopted minutes approved a $100 grant for Birtle Collegiate Scarborough trip accepted resignations from M Parabec and approved stage drapery installation at Hamiota Collegiate and the 1972 budget with a special levy of 592 254.00 The meeting adjourned to April 6 at 8 p m with adjournment at 12 15 a m.

Park Residence News Introduces Week of Local Visits

Mrs Barnes returned home after six weeks with family in Winnipeg. Numerous neighbors and relatives from Neepawa Brandon Kenton Minot a Virden Rivers and Birtle visited or stayed with Mrs Bardwell Mrs Hemphill Mrs Gardham and others for birthdays milestones and well wishes. Gordon Emerson remains hospitalized with friends sending fast recoveries.

Decker AB Hockey Team Routs Schedule With 27 Wins

The Decker Community celebrates their AB hockey team for an undefeated season totaling 27 victories. The squad won all league games and the first two playoff rounds against Hamiota and Shoal Lake before a third round defeat to Minnedosa. Coach Ted Little and staff are thanked for their effort and time.
