Volunteers backbone of Cancer Society in Westman
The Canadian Cancer Society relies on volunteers for services and education. In Manitoba more than 40 percent of donations stay locally to support patients, families, and regional programs. Trained volunteers assist in Brandon General Hospital and Winnipeg centres, with 500 plus yearly volunteer Driver rides. The Lennox Bell Lodge offers a home away from home for rural patients, while public education promotes healthy lifestyle choices and early detection. The Brandon office provides pamphlets and films, with contact at 727 7577.

Community Arts Events Highlight Hamiota Schedule
The Prairie Theatre Exchange staged Little Monster at Hamiota Collegiate on March 18 drawing 387 elementary attendees. Ballet classes began in Hamiota with 14 dancers. Miniota classes were canceled. A writing workshop with Helen Levi is set for April 20 at the Hamiota Public Library. The 18th Annual Arts West Juried Art Show opens April 12 at 1 pm at the Hamiota Community Centre with a reception at 2 pm. The Arts Council AGM is April 21 in Kenton with Nancy Drake as guest speaker. Brandon Community Orchestra tickets are for May 4 at 3 pm at the Miniota rink. Family Services Minister Bonnie Mitchelson announces expansion of the education program for separating and divorcing parents to Brandon through the Westman family conciliation office.
