Hamiota Ladies Bonspiel crowns Shamray rink top honors
The 44th annual Hamiota Ladies Bonspiel March 4 to 8 drew 38 rinks. Maxine Shamray’s Oak River team captured the Oakden’s Jewellery trophy for event one while Karen McKinnon of Virden won event two. Other top finishers included Nancy Strachan of Hamiota and Maxine Heritage of Virden in event one, Barb Pettinger of Shoal Lake and Rivers in event one’s fourth, and Barb Anderson and Mary English of Hamiota in event three.

Hamiota to host Mike Buckingham on drinking and driving
The Hamiota Action Committee Against Drinking and Driving brings Mike Buckingham to Hamiota Collegiate on March 25. Buckingham, a Tacoma area trooper injured in an impaired driving crash, shares his story with students and adults to stress the dangers of alcohol related collisions.

50th Anniversary celebrated in Beulah Hall tea and dance
Beulah hosted a 50th wedding anniversary for Lawrence and Dorothea Amy on February 29 1992 with 144 guests signing the book. Community gifts included a Beulah Clock and brass candle holders. The evening featured first dances and a Grannie dance with grandchildren and friends, with attendees from Beulah Stony Plain Vancouver and other towns.

Hamiota hosts recreational youth hockey jamboree
Hamiota hosted a one day recreational hockey jamboree on Saturday March 7 with players from Neepawa Brookdale and Hamiota. Four teams were drawn from a shared player pool and each team played two games. The day ended with a tie in the final game and each participant received a medallion.

Farewell evening for Graham and Dianne Jamieson in Hamiota
A large gathering in the Hamiota curling clubroom said farewell to Graham and Dianne Jamieson on March 1. Friends presented corsages. Vaughn Wilson MC’d, Val Lobban donated a clock and cash, and gifts came from Britta Wilson and Paige Mathison. The couple will move to Las Vegas after expressing thanks and nostalgia for the community.
