Manitoba Teachers Hold Bonspiel Winners Named
Teachers from outside Greater Winnipeg won top prizes at the 2nd annual Manitoba teachers bonspiel of The Manitoba Teachers' Society at the Highlander Curling Club in St. James Assiniboia March 14 and 15. The Beautiful Plains team skipped by Ron Westcott won the MTS event. Al Robertson's Birdtail River rink claimed the MAST trophy with second and fourth places noted for Fort Garry, Blin Flon, and Antler River. Prizes were presented by Sister Pearl Gervais and officials including Wally Linton at a banquet and dance that evening.

Birdtail River School Board Holds March 12 1970 Meeting
The Birdtail River School Division No 38 conducted its regular meeting at Shoal Lake on Thursday March 12 1970 at 8 00 p m Trustees present included Fulton Waddell Rapley Ham es Lewycky Butcher Randell Hyndman Armitage Fouillard Motions approved minutes of March 9 1970 report of the superintendent and the proposed South Western Region Central Coordinating Committee representative L R Fulton. The board supported a seal coat project on Provincial Road 475 from Fox Warren School to Foxwarren Cemeteries and approved financial statements and budget for 1970. They reviewed extracurricular transportation policy, approved progress payment 6 for Birtle Collegiate addition, adjusted two school van routes, read bylaw 270 on equipment financing, authorized Form 6 for tempering loan, moved offices from Shoal Lake High School, and directed investigation of new office space with a report due March 26. Meeting adjourned 11 45 p m.

Decker Woman's Institute Plans Centennial Day Spoons Sale
The Decker Wo mens Institute met at Mrs. M Little s home on March 11 with eleven members and two visitors. Members suggested ideas for Centennial Day and decided to order Centennial Spoons to sell. April is cancer month and books for the Children's Hospital Book Sale may be dropped with Mrs Lints. Mrs Cochran and Mrs Lints presented the program People are Important. Mrs Cochran won a surprise parcel.

Co op Sales & Services Show Increase At 41st Meeting
The 41st annual Harhiota Co op (1953) Ltd. meeting drew 85 attendees on March 10 at the Elementary School Auditorium. Keith Dixon chaired. R. O. Wilson reported nearly $34 000 spent on improvements. 32 new members joined. $32 930 in member equities repaid. G Little received a $1700 equity payout under retirement plan. Manager Ivan Dorald noted $16 571 in savings available for reserve allocation. expenses declined, but higher interest costs trimmed gains. Officers elected include Frank Bollman Garth Strachan Mel Dixon. Dixon re-elected president. Special honors were 15 year pin for Val Field and a gal watch for Jim Maitland. The event featured centennial décor and a lunch served by Coop Staff Club.

Grade seven and eight students from Hamiota and their families enjoyed a curling bonspiel sponsored by the Elementary School at the Hamiota rink on March 14. R. Dixon beat R. McMillan in the A Event finals, with prizes including trophies and paintings. Earl Gregory won the Consolation, while special honors went to R. McConnell for Closest Win and P. J. Robinson for Largest End.

Hamiota 4 H held its annual meeting on March 13 with twenty members and one visitor. Speeches by Debbie Hale and Carolyn Gregory, upcoming 4 H Curling Bonspiel March 30–31, with a pancake supper March 30 at Chumah Hall. Crandall 4 H Potato and Gun Club reorganized for 1970. Elaine Webber reelected president, Craig Hyndman VP, Shirley McLean secretary, Scott Coupe treasurer, Ron Smith press reporter. March 14 bonspiel had seven rinks. winners Ed Smith first Challenge, Hirst second Cone, Hirst first Consolation, Miniota Home Ec second Consolation.
