In the current season, farmers borrowed for 99 hog barns 14 dairy units 15 beef development loans and 473 other agricultural loans. At Mrs. Gloria Bell's home on March 24 nine members and three visitors met. Mrs. Mabel Wright chaired. reports included Red Cross canvass and treasurer. Plans discussed for the Centennial Ball at the Community Centre with door ribbons and prizes for numbers 50 100 150 and for dances costumes and beards.

Foundation Levy Rate Reduced by One Mill in Manitoba

Manitoba Youth and Education Minister Saul Miller announced a one mill cut in the foundation levy for 1970 affecting farm and residential property and other property. The 70-30 funding split between the province and municipalities remains, with a further saving expected to benefit residents and school divisions.

Anniversary for Hamiota couple marks Golden Wedding

Mr and Mrs Joseph E Kirk celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house in Hamiota Manitoba on March 7 1970 attended by family and friends They were married in San Diego California and lived in the Chumah district until retiring in 1965 Four children Louise Grant Hyndman Mabel Lorne Asselstine and two grandchildren plus one great grandson joined nine grandchildren in congratulating the couple the Kirks also thanked well wishers for the greetings.

Oak River 4-H Achieves Night Honors Fashion Show

Oak River Home Economics Club held Achievement Night on March 25 with a crowd of mothers and friends. The Fashion Review 1970 showcased bygone and modern styles by the girls, including Aleen Sclater and Valerie Saboski as models. Members earned ribbons and certificates as Hazel Mitchell encouraged continued 4H participation. A luncheon followed hosted by the W.L. members.

Anniversary Celebrated CHUMAH Lewis Twenty Fifth

Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Lewis were honored on their twenty fifth wedding anniversary at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Lewis on Saturday March 28. Twenty four family members shared a turkey dinner around a three tier cake decorated with roses and candles. Janie received a pink sweetheart rose corsage. Charlie and best man Bernard Graf ton received carnations. A stainless steel cutlery set was given by the family. About forty friends and neighbors called to offer best wishes and they received many gifts and cards.
