The Strathclair Drama Club rehearses Lerner and Loewe's My Fair Lady for a 1992 Bend Theatre production. Cast and crew work on costumes sets and backstage roles as the show opens April 7 with nightly performances through April 11 at 7 30 p m. The tenth anniversary adds to the excitement as audiences are urged to attend.
The World Day of Prayer service in Miniota, conducted by Donna Bonner with the choir led by Marge Taylor, featured readings from three central European countries Austria Germany and Switzerland. The event, though not heavily attended locally, is part of a global observance in over 170 countries with more than 3000 services in Canada, followed by tea and social time.
The fifth Miniota 4-H Club meeting gathered March 1 at Matt and Karen Bunns to plan a float for the Virden Fair and set Achievement Day for June 16 at the Miniota Rink. Members discussed Rally displays, signs for new members, and heard speeches by Warren Edmundson Angela Tapp and Blaine Watson.
By 1982 the Virden Community Arts Council had grown from a 1981 founding group to an incorporated body with Directors Elsie Rutley Lyndon Brent Chalmers Donna Kinnaird Edythe Clayton Maizie Carruthers and Patricia Mac Donald. The council promoted visual and performing arts and hosted courses from pottery and quilting to basic knitting crochet and a meat cutting workshop taught by Don Austin for deer hunters. Its catchment expanded across Fort La Bosse School Division including Kola Elkhorn McAuley Oak Lake Reston Sinclair Virden and surrounding RM areas drawing crowds from many towns and beyond.
