Saskatchewan pension plan mirrors federal tax rules in budget
The 1987 88 budget largely quiet on tax reform, but highlights a new Saskatchewan low income pension plan with government matching contributions up to 600 per person. The federal plan allows deduction of Saskatchewan plan contributions from taxable income only to the extent of unused RRSP room. 1986 87 contributions may be deductible in 1987 if RRSP room remains. Similar concessions may apply to other provinces creating comparable plans. Also proposed changes let investment dealers act as custodians for self administered RRSPs with safeguards through the National Contingency Fund.
