Tom Thumbs Host Tourney in Hamiota Hockey Invite
Hamiota hosted its first eight team Tom Thumb Invitational on March 5 and 6. Hamiota beat Oak Lake 7-3 in the opening game, Virden edged Souris 5-4 in overtime, Shoal Lake beat Miniota 2-1, and Elkhorn took a 2-1 win over Kenton in the A final. Souris then defeated Oak Lake 4-2 to reach the B final against Miniota, with Miniota winning 3-2. Elkhorn defeated Hamiota 2-1 to win the A final, claiming the Jackie Caldwell Memorial Trophy, amid thanks to all contributors and hopes to repeat next year.

Hospital Aid Meet Plans March 1 Vote at Hamiota
The Women’s Aid to the Hamiota Hospital District No 7A met in Hamiota on February 26 with Mrs. Wiltsey presiding. Eleven members attended. Treasurer’s balance was 2810.79 dollars. A student nurse loan was requested. Supplies included a tea pot can opener and rubber spatulas, purchased. Occupancy for the month reached 80.26 percent. Final planning for the March 1 hospital vote dominated the meeting. Mrs. Hames shared a Brandon Hospital Guild history begun in 1883. The June supper and regional meeting are set for Hamiota on May 20 with Mrs. Lamb attending. Rankin reported on the Winnipeg conference.

UCW Meeting at Mrs Hudson Anderson Home
The UCW gathered Thursday afternoon March 4 at Mrs Hudson Anderson’s home. Mrs Jim Routledge and Mrs N Argue led devotional readings on James Evans and James Robertson, with 13 members and two visitors. Plans discussed include a Smorgasbord in Chumah Hall on April 16 and lunch service at the Masonic Service in Hamiota United Church on May 16. A fund drive asked members to donate a cent per family member, from two to fourteen cents, and committees were formed. Lunch was provided by Mrs Harold Brown and Mrs Med Anderson.

The Women's Institute gathered in Hamiota with 24 members. Treasurer reported 217.32 balance. debated boosting social security to 150 monthly and supported a Basswood Institute abortion resolution. A cancer drive was planned. Red Cross reports noted 175 sewn items and 14 afghans delivered.

Birtle UCW Holds Ninth Presbyterial Meeting
The Birtle Presbyterial United Church Women met at Minnedosa United Church Centre on February 23 with the Live-Love theme.
