1983 Bicycle Rodeo a Success in Hamiota

Hamiota RCMP and elementary staff organized a safe bike rodeo themed A Safe Bike and The Rules of the Road. Local businesses donated prizes and meals. 158 students earned locking chains and 164 earned diplomas after safety checks.

McConnell Beef Club Plans 50th Anniversary Events

Final plans for the McConnell Beef Club 50th anniversary on July 2 detail an Achievement Day at 1:00 p.m. with 4H beef steer auction preview for July 25 at Strathclair. Open evening events start at 7:00 p.m. with a short program and dancing, featuring mementoes and limited memorabilia remaining after the 2nd.

Hamiota Legion Auxiliary Meeting Notes June 21 1983

Fourteen members attended the Hamiota Auxiliary meeting chaired by Eileen Brown. A May 24 minutes review, Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal donation of 1300.40, booth plans for Flat Day July 21 raffle, memorial gift to Hamiota District Health Centre for Donald Kennedy, and Biennial Convention report from Lorraine Miller were discussed. Next meeting set for September, with holiday wishes volunteered.

Rev Nadene Grieve Honoured at Kenton U C W Shower

The Kenton United Church Women hosted a garden shower on the church lawn on Saturday June 11 at 2 30 p m for Rev Nadene Grieve. Guests from Kenton and nearby districts of Shiloh Tarbolton and Hamiota attended as a wicker themed event with gifts presented by the Junior Choir. Nadene thanked guests and the Junior Choir served lunch while she greeted each guest personally.

Beulah Community Chapel Marks Eleven Years Since Founding

The Beulah Community Chapel held its annual meeting in the chapel with President Mrs. Gladys Chisholm chairing. She recalled the 1972 organizational meeting and noted thirteen marriages, 46 baptisms, and 21 burials since inception.

Speed Check Very Successful at Hamiota

The RCMP report a two hour radar speed check Monday near Hamiota tested 45 vehicles with 95 percent showing accurate speedometers and the rest within a 3 km per hour tolerance.

Pythian Lodge Meeting Held in Kenton

Alpha Temple hosted Grand Chief Ane Frid on an official Alberta visit with husband Joh. The event featured her motto Communication Builds Love and project Help an individual of our choice. Grand Sessions tip is Innisfail in 1984. District 4 Convention will be in Yorkton in 1983. Knights from North and South Dakota and Canadian cities attend.

Two Final Big Days at the Ex

Winnipeg fairgoers will enjoy Lifestyle Manitoba Exhibits on July 1 and 2 with ethnic dance and singing groups on the arena ice level. At 8:00 p.m. nightly a free arena stage preview of Folklorama features the Orlan Ukrainian Folk Ensemble Irish Tavern Singers the Tadaschuk Sisters and the Portugese Folk Dancers. A fireworks display lights the sky at 10:30 p.m. on Friday July 1.
