Hire A Student Week Proclaimed In Manitoba Jobs Fund Aid

Manitoba Labor Minister Mary Beth Dolin proclaims Hire-A-Student Week June 27 to July 2 to address rising youth unemployment from 12.3 percent in 1982 to 17.8 percent this year. The government backs Careerstart and Manitoba Jobs Fund programs aiming to help about 14 000 students obtain summer work through wage subsidies and job placement services.

Hire-A-Student Week Details for Youth Referrals

Young people seeking Careerstart positions must register and be referred by a Hire-A-Student Job Centre or the Employment Services Office at 1009-401 York Avenue Winnipeg. The office handles computerized central registration and referrals for seasonal work and will fill Careerstart and commission roles. Over 2,000 students expected to find provincial government employment through S.T.E.P. and budgeted positions.

Women group forms in Miniota Manitoba

Rural Manitoba women form groups affiliated with the Manitoba Action Committee on the Status of Women. The Miniota group meets since January, plans monthly meetings and summer sessions July 4 and August 1. Current project promotes a family life educational program for schools.

Helicopter Team Set for Centennial Festival Display

The Rangers Helicopter Team of five helicopters will perform formations and low altitude maneuvers at Miniota Centennial Celebrations on Saturday July 9 at 2 30 p m. Led by Captain Wayne Norris the team of ten pilots come from No 3 Flying Training School CF B Portage la Prairie and will answer public questions after the show.

Convocation Held at University of Manitoba For 1983 Graduates

The University of Manitoba conferred degrees diplomas and certificates on more than 2 600 graduates in six sessions held across the Fort Garry Campus Bison Building St Boniface College and a special ceremony in the Centennial Concert Hall marking Dentistry and Medicine anniversaries. Addition Renovation Planned for Birtle Elementary School

The Public Schools Finance Board approves a 1.2 million plan to renovate and expand Birtle Elementary in Birdtail River, adding seven classrooms a science room a resource centre gym and admin space. The 1920s building will be upgraded while existing temporary buildings are replaced.
