Winnipeg reports plans to build a Brandon fire training centre by late 1982 or early 1983 with a seminar room two classrooms two bays and a barn house to train firefighters and educate the public. The project mirrors Thompson’s facility and serves western Manitoba. the Fire Commissioner’s Office will also train hotel staff and issue safety pamphlets.

Agriculture Museum Receives Manitoba Grant

Winnipeg sculptress Helen Granger Young donates a foot-high porcelain statuette titled Eskimo Mother to Manitoba as a wedding gift for Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer. Winnipeg artist Helen Granger Young explains to Premier Sterling Lyon the porcelain sculpture Eskimo Mother to be Manitoba’s wedding gift to Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer. Donated by Mrs. Young, the piece portrays an Inuit mother with a son, a polar bear cub and a dog. It will be shown in the Legislative Building until mid July. Young’s works are in high demand and have been used as royal gifts in the past, including Nixon gifting one to Brezhnev.
