Premier Schreyer Visits Hamiota for Graduation and Banquet

Premier and Mrs. Schreyer attended graduation at Elton College and a public speaking event in Hamiota on Friday. They toured the Hamiota District Hospital and Senior Citizens Park Residence on Saturday then joined a smorgasbord in Fraternal Hall. Musicians from Hamiota School Band performed before Schreyer spoke about the federal budget and tax plans. He praised some measures but opposed estate tax removal and questioned Ottawa reforms, addressing questions in a postmeeting Q and A.

W. L. Club Meeting At Pang Home Plans Picnic

The W L met at Mrs Dot Pang May June 15 with six members and one visitor. The meeting opened with the WL creed and roll call asking for a favorite song. Minutes and treasurer report approved. Family Picnic set for July 18 at Lake Odie with games before supper. Final Fat Stock booth plans discussed and a sing song followed by Mrs G Newton’s address.

A miscellaneous shower in Chumah Hall of Hamiota United Church on June 12 honored Valerie McNiven. Pink and white apple blossom decor adorned the setting. Valerie was escorted to the honored place by Patricia Reid as June Reid accompanied on piano.

Miss Heather Chappell bride elect of July 3 was honored at a miscellaneous shower in Chumah Hall. Audrey Brooks Janet Johnston and Marge Davis presented the honoree. Over 100 guests signed the guest book as gifts were announced and tea with lunch followed served by the committee.

Festival of Arts Pre Registration Closes Monday

Neepawa Manitoba pre registration for the Festival of Arts closes Monday June 28. Courses run July 4 to 16 including painting ceramics drama photography and music with final enrollment July 4 at Neepawa Area Collegiate Institute. Registration fees are 40 adults 17 youth 16 to 18 and 8 children 8 to 15. A day care and recreation program are available and scholarship recipients should inform the registrar promptly.
