The class of 1971 graduation in Hamiota on June 25 features a combined awards and prom night. An orchestra chosen for a suitable volume will accompany ceremonies, grand march, and a dance with The Keystone Status from Brandon.
Hamiota General UCW met at Chumah hall on June 10 at 2 p.m. Mrs. C Johnston presided. Minutes read. correspondence from Sandra Sommerville, Alcohol and Drug Education Service, P C T C, Congressional Life and Work, and a bulletin on Community Alive were discussed. Don Hudson outlined summer programs August 9–20. members invited all ages. a radio replacement donation was postponed to next year. Treasurer reported $1368.89 balance. planned $700 to Finance. donation to Community Alive approved. CGIT graduation praised. area VP reported UCW attendance at Decker May 19. Sunday School needs teachers. Africa study pack ordered for next year. Unit 6 to run devotions. Mizpah Benediction closed.
The Red Sox beat Dauphin in a 15 inning marathon 6 to 5 behind Glenis Scott’s strong relief outing. Ham tot a tied the game with hits in the 5th 6th and 7th while Mel Smith hit a first pitch homer in the 15th.
On June 6 the Morris family celebrated three couples marking their twenty fifth anniversaries. Cecil Cormack, Arthur Morris, and Ed Morris were toasted at a 28 person buffet gathering in Hamiota. Attendees Don Senchuk Stewart and Larry Cormack could not attend.
The 1970 71 Hamiota CGIT year started October 7 with Mrs. Audrey Kirk and Mrs. Phyllis Cosgrove as leaders. Later in the year new leaders took over and a full slate of officers and activities followed including fundraising, pins, synards, and Christmas services. The group planned a Vesper Service, collected for Unicef, hosted bake sales and raffles, and supported the adopted orphan program. Graduation exercises honored twelve graduates with speeches, pins, and a candlelight commendation by adult representatives, marking a forward look to future church life.
The Hamiota Curling Club reports winners by game number with participants from Virden St Lazare Carman Rathwell Oak River Shoal Lake Minnedosa Wawanesa Oakburn Elphinstone Oak River Birtle Minnedosa and others. Contests include Dufield Peppin Hamelin Collier Watson Terry Haney Pedrow Wasilka etc.
