Miniota U C marks 60 years of union
The United Church of Canada celebrated sixty years of Union with a special service across Isabella Birtle and Miniota. Banners paraded before the front of the churches created by Sunday School classes CE Committee UCW and Choir. Children presented banners for birds fish puppies kittens and babies. A 60th Anniversary dialogue featured local participants.

4-H Rally At Shoal Lake Draws Members
In Shoal Lake on May 25 a 4‑H Rally drew many members. The program started with an 11 a.m. parade, followed by lunch and workshops. Awards were given in fashion, senior modelling and other events, with Carla Bridge named third princess and Shaun Robertson winning a welding trophy for the second year. Ivan Brewer’s chess set was selected for display at the Provincial Exhibition.

The June 12 gathering at Mable Wrights included nine members and one visitor Leona Duffy of Alberta, cousin of Irene Wilson. Reports covered treasurer, May minutes, hospital aid, and a fundraiser for patient therapy equipment plus a Brain Scanner fund inquiry. A fun day was planned for June 23 at 2 p.m. at the McConnell Community Centre, with Leona Duffy winning the monthly raffle.

Red Sox Earn First Win Over Souris Cardinals Then Beat Virden
The Red Sox won 3-1 at Souris as Steve Polk limited Hamiota to two hits. Juan Ibarra and Jeff Kostiak each doubled for Hamiota. Next night Virden fell 5-2 to a ten hit Red Sox attack with Ibarra earning the win. Ibarra and Ramsey each had three hits. Kopaczewski took the loss for Virden. Jeff Robertson returned to action for Hamiota as the season record stood at 1-3.

Bride elect honoured in Hamiota shower for Shauna McKinnon
Shauna McKinnon bride elect of June 14 was honored with a miscellanious shower on June 8 at 2 p.m. in Chumah Hall. The hall featured drawings from infancy to graduation. Leila Paterson played piano. Wanda Strachan, Maureen, Dienna and Leila sang Annie's Song. Dienna McConnell read the address in Laurie Brown’s absence. Gifts were brought by Krista and Haley McKinnon, dressed as a ball player and scuba diver. The community gave a money gift. Shauna thanked friends for gifts and well wishes. Lunch followed.

Kenton Sunday School Honors Members and Graduates
The Kenton Sunday School held its church service on June 2 with 25 attendance awards given to members not missing more than seven Sundays. U C W program on capital punishment at Edna Reynolds home
U C W members met June 12 with seven present. Rae Armitage led a discussion on capital punishment noting studies showing no deterrent effect and that the church opposes reinstating the death penalty.
