Crandall W.I. Plans 70th Anniversary Party

Crandall W.I. met in the church meeting room on Wednesday for a short session. Tentative plans were made for a 70th Anniversary party, and lawyer Ross Poole spoke on laws impacting women, estates, wills, and farm law, clarifying public misconceptions. Lunch followed to close the evening.

Manitoba Premier offers talks with three U.S. governors over livestock imports

Premier Howard Pawley of Manitoba proposes to meet or discuss by phone with South Dakota Governor William J. Janklow Iowa Governor Terry Brandstad and Nebraska Governor Bob Kerrye to ease restrictions on Canadian livestock. The telex to the governors stresses information exchange, not negotiations, as a path to progress and was sent to the Canadian prime minister and ministers.

Manitoba Division funds Jeffrey's Folks cancer Parents group

The Canadian Cancer Society Manitoba Division, Patient Services Committee, will fully fund Jeffrey's Folks a support group for parents of children with cancer. Doreen Jenkins says the program expands services to all affected individuals and addresses coping, fear, isolation, and family impact. Audrey Mutter co-founded the group in 1981 and praises the affiliation.

Hamiota Legion Auxiliary May 28 1985 Meeting Notes

The Hamiota Legion Auxiliary met May 28, 1985 with 28 members present. Frances Kirkpatrick read last meeting minutes and the treasurer Lorraine Miller delivered the financial report. Frances read extensive correspondence. Four members will enter a Virden golf tournament in June. Donations are being accepted for a grocery hamper to be drawn at the local fair. members are asked to bring donations to the June meeting. Lunch was served. Next meeting set for June 25.

Hall of Fame Receives $12,400 Provincial Grant

Manitoba allocates up to 12,400 in 1985 funds to the Manitoba Agricultural Hall of Fame with a two to one provincial match. The Hall honors individuals for outstanding contributions to agriculture and rural life and is housed at the Keystone Centre in Brandon.

Red Sox seek first win as tied game halts play at Binscarth

On June 2 Hamiota and Binscarth battled to a 3-3 tie after 11 innings with Ibarra and Trapp each pitching portions of the game. Hamiota and Binscarth each had ten hits led by Coulson Lowe with two apiece. The clubs meet again July 11 in Hamiota while Brandon overtook Hamiota 8-5 when darkness halted play in the top of the eighth after Hamiota had taken an 11-8 lead.

Manitoba Museum Receives 123600 Grant

Agriculture Minister Bill Uruski announced a 123600 provincial grant to the Manitoba Agricultural Museum Inc. for the current fiscal year. Located in Austin, the museum has already received 60000 and will obtain 63600 more by early August, supporting one of Canada’s largest steam engine collections and the annual Manitoba Threshermen's Reunion and Stampede. The Homesteaders' Village within the museum includes a church post office livery barn grain elevator railway station printing office and more.
