Ambulance Purchase Committee Formed By Hamiota Lions

The Hamiota Lions Club formed a committee led by Mac Campbell to raise funds for a new hospital district ambulance. A bank account has been opened for urgent contributions, with a proposed cost between six and ten thousand dollars.

Friday Awards Night At H C I Hamiota

The student council introduces a four year points based awards system across four categories certificates mascot crest honorary roll to honor academic and athletic stars. The night recognizes Student Contributing Most to H C I top male and female athletes and includes the new crest and awards process.

Curling Club Plans Smorgasbord and Walk-a-thon

Oak River Curling Club met at Mrs Ken Club’s home on Thursday June 3 with eight ladies present. They discussed business, planned a Smorgasbord for the Dine and Dance, and decided on a Walk-a-thon for Monday June 28 plus a presentation to a club member.

M. H. A. A. Meet at Hamiota May 20 1971

The M H A A met in the Hamiota Community Room on May 20 1971 chaired by Mrs. Lamb of Rivers. Registration noted 47 attendees from Brandon Virden Shoal Lake Riverdale and Russell with Miss Joan Bickford head nurse Virden Health Unit as guest speaker on mental health and home care for the elderly. Virden invited to host next year’s meeting.

Birdtail River School Board Holds June 3 1971 Meeting

Birdtail River School Division No. 38 convened at Crandall on June 3 1971 at 8 00 p.m. Trustees Waddell Butcher Fulton Rapley Hames Armitage Hynd man Randell Foulliard Falloon Lewycky attended with Don Hudson and M Dupont. Topics included grounds rental Birtle Sports Committee, Northern Film Federation membership, grant policy changes and staff matters. The board accepted May 20 minutes approved finances and change order 13 for the Birtle Collegiate addition, hired Aron Sawatsky as Coordinator of Special Education and heard reports on the Birdtail River Science Fair and paint tenders. The meeting adjourned to June 17 1971. Mr Hudson outlined a Community Alive project under Opportunities for Youth.

UCW Trip to Sioux Valley and Kenton Dam Outing

The UCW skipped the June meeting to tour Sioux Valley and observe handiwork by local women. Members browsed crafts, beads, skins, and machined articles with coast to coast sales appeal. Afterward they picnic at Kenton Dam. A June 14 church bale packing at 1 30 p m invites clean used clothing donations for that date. Fat Stock Show dinner plans are to be discussed.

Ladies Club June Meet At Betty Smith Home

The Ladies Club gathered June 2 at Mrs. Betty Smith’s home with 12 members and one visitor. Group 3 leader Betty Smith led devotional service assisted by Doris Pollock and Pearl Kidd, theme Hands. Janie Lewis conducted business as president, minutes and roll call taken, Doris Pollock reported hospital and treasurer. Edith Gunson of Rivers demonstrated Petal Dip Flowers and led members in wool flower making, with her display of work. A luncheon hosted by Mrs. Lock and Pearl Kidd ended the afternoon.

Hamiota Hospital Aid Meets Details May 28

The Hamiota Hospital Aid No 7A met May 28 in the Community Room with Mrs Wiltsey presiding. Fourteen districts attended as minutes read by Mrs Griffiths were approved. Florence Nightingale Tea raised 166.77. A Blood Donors Clinic will be in Miniota on June 8. Proposals included buying new heaters for the Mixmaster and establishing a Memorial Fund. A supper meeting June 18 in Hamiota featured Mrs Solway. possible CNLB speaker in October.

Explorers Meet at May 31 Graduation Night

The local Explorers held their last meeting on Monday May 31 with ten members. The session opened with ceremonies and roll call, followed by minutes, wind up planning, a story reading, book reading and offerings. Red star recipients were Jocelyn Hayhurst Leanne Coulson Cathy Genung Elizabeth Perry Shelly Haggarty Veronica Uzell. blue star Sherri Genung. gold stars Aileen Sclater Marianne Angus Cheryl Pennington.

Penton’s Little Leaguers Triumph in Road Wins

HAMIOTA Red Sox took two road games at Brandon and Virden and will host Virden on Friday June 16 during Premier Schreyer’s visit. Bryan Smith, Mel Smith, Robertson and Caldwell sparked Brandon’s lapses with a 10-2 loss as Hamiota built a big lead. Ramsey pitched well against Virden, with four errors by Hamiota not costing a win.
