Community Remembers at 50th Avro Anson Memorial Service
June 9 marked the 50th anniversary of the Avro Anson training crash in 1942. About 400 to 500 attendees witnessed a fly past by the BC ATP Museum aircraft, followed by Amazing Grace by Dan Mitchell of Rivers. Legionnaires marched in, led by the Legion Color Party and Ladies Auxiliary, as Archie Landry opened with O Canada. The Environmental Innovations Fund grants 50 000 dollars to the Westman Recycling Council to establish a multi material depot and processing centre in Brandon. Environment Minister Glen Cummings cites rising waste volumes and a 50 percent target for municipal solid waste by 2000 along with public education on Reduce Reuse Recycle.

In Hamiota 43 golfers joined the second 1992 Ladies Golf evening. In the 1st Flight Jean McKinnon won, Nora Kirk took second, Betty Thomson third. Linda Mathison led the 2nd Flight with Dorothy Strong second and Dora Steven third. Ella Mathison topped 3rd Flight with June Hazelwood second and Helen Wiltsey third. Sally MacDonald was closest to pin on 2 with a 2nd shot. Shayne Cosgrove made the high hidden hole on 6. Upcoming events include June 22 Senior Ladies Tournament, June 24 Mixed Night with pre registration 5 to 6 and shotgun start at 6. July 1 Ladies Night.

Relatives and friends gathered in Hamiota on June 6 1992 to honor Rene and Dot Lepine on their 50th wedding anniversary. Lilac decor graced the hall while 328 well wishers shared songs, toasts, and a dinner. Dignitaries from Ottawa Winnipeg Russell and Paris sent congratulations.
