Hamiota Summer Fair Draws Large Attendance
The Hamiota Agricultural Society hosted a record fair on July 20 with a large crowd, hot dry weather, and prominent entertainment. Highlights included a major livestock show with numerous champion and reserve awards across cattle, sheep, horses, and swine, a wide exhibit from local farms, garden and cooking prizes, and a baseball tournament climaxing in a Hamiota win.

Regional Sheep Show At Hamiota Fair A Hit
A successful regional sheep show conducted during the Hamiota Annual Fair drew fifteen exhibitors showcasing 175 sheep across seven breeds. Judges included Calvin Foster of Mather with awards going to W R Holland for Suffolk and Shropshire, A G Dailey for Southdown, D A Campbell for Oxford Hampshire, M Clegg for North Country Cheviot, and A F Hay for Corriedale.

Red Cross Blood Clinic Comes to Hamiota August 8
The Red Cross donor mobile clinic arrives at Hamiota School on August 8 from 3 30 to 8 30 p m. The quota is 250 donors to support Manitoba blood collection goals of 1200 bottles weekly. Shortfalls threaten regional hospital blood orders and could delay surgeries and transfusions. In 1959 the hospital used 103 bottles. by mid 1960 usage reached 81 bottles, with 69 from Red Cross and 12 from local donors.

June Road Contracts Top 1.25 Million Dollars
Tenders in Manitoba's highway program totalled over 1.25 million with gravelling and surfacing contracts. Notable work includes a 45 mile section from Gypsumville to Grand Rapids and 123 miles of PTH 5 from Ochre River to south of Dauphin. Lowest bids come from A Kelly and Son for PTH 6 to 45 miles, and Commonwealth Construction for surfacing PTH 5. Bridges also feature, with Dominion Bridge Co Ltd bidding on Assiniboine River bridge at Brandon and Swanson Construction on the Ste. Agathe Red River deck.

The event judges praise their grounds for beautification to provincial standards and note Scorgie s entry will enter provincial competition. Other placers include E A Dixon Fred Wyatt Tom Gray and Charlie Sheardown in order. In Vegetable Garden scoring John McGhee topped the field with Harry Zuk Charlie Lee J Scorgie and judge William Barrett of Miniota among evaluators.
