Manitoba Introduces New Wildlife Act Bill 103

Natural Resources Minister Brian Ransom introduced Bill 103 in the Manitoba legislature to update and simplify wildlife law. The act tightens private land hunting rules, expands compensation for livestock losses, raises penalties, and adds endangered species protections, reporting requirements, and cross border wildlife management.

Agreement Signed for Crown Attorneys

Winnipeg Labour and Manpower Minister Ken MacMaster announced a two year contract with the Manitoba Association of Crown Attorneys representing 55 lawyers. The pact includes 9.5 percent salary rise from March 22 1980, 9 percent plus 10.35 bi weekly from March 21 1981, six weeks vacation after 30 years, and inclusion in the same dental plan as other government employees.

Hamiota Girls Win Midget B Provincial Title

Hamiota Midget Girls coached by Harvey Duncan and Garry Cochrane won the provincial B championship at a July 12 13 tournament in Hamiota defeating Fort Richmond Lord Roberts and Winnipeg River East in the round robin. Killarney forced a playoff with one loss. Hamiota won 21 3 in the rematch to claim gold and Ruth Doran earned MVP for pitching.

Province sells 53 crown land parcels for long term leases

Winnipeg reports total 247 423 dollars from 53 crown land parcels sold under long term agricultural leases this year with 96 004 owed. 880 applications for purchase were filed by July 10 with 274 approved and 112 rejected leaving 494 to process. 29 parcels have been transferred. The province will keep flood prone or erosion prone lands and those needed for public use.

Judging Teams to Inspect Manitoba Roads and Grounds

Reeve J S Sigurdson announces four judging teams will tour four Manitoba regions over three weeks to appraise roads and streets of member municipalities and judge beautification of farm and non farm home grounds. The competition marks the 71st year with trophies in each region and a Best of Province award.

Agreement Ratified by Hydro and IBEW in Manitoba

Manitoba Hydro and Local Union 2034 IBEW report a renewed two year collective agreement lasting to June 2, 1982. The pact covers about 2,200 Manitoba Hydro field workers and grants 10 percent wage increases in year one retroactive to June 5, 1980, and 10.5 percent in year two.
