Public notice requests advertisers and correspondents to submit all advertising and news copy by Saturday August 2nd due to the holiday on Monday August 4th 1980. The office thanks contributors for timely submissions.
Melanie Kirk reports attending the Manitoba Holiday Festival of the Arts in Neepawa from July 6 to 19 on a Birdtail Festival committee scholarship. She describes billeting with Hank and Mrs Kuyp, meeting international participants, and events from concerts with Fred Penner and Sundance to art gallery openings and song workshops led by Lon Udon and Warren Ramsey.
Education Minister Keith Cosens announced Alphe Labossiere’s appointment to the Public Schools Finance Board to complete the term of Howard M. Dunfield, ending December 31, 1981. Labossiere, of Dunrea, has seven years as a Turtle Mountain school trustee. the board administers the foundation fund financed by the province.
Natural Resources Minister Brian Ransom asks citizens to watch for sick or dead ducks and shorebirds this summer. The department cooperates with Ducks Unlimited and the Canadian Wildlife Service to monitor botulism in waterfowl and plans a joint contingency program for a serious outbreak. Report sightings to conservation officers or wildlife biologists.
Ralf Kuritz of St Francois Xavier appointed to the Teachers Retirement Allowances Fund Board as MTS representative. James G. Oborne of Winnipeg reappointed as chairman. Frank Kennedy of Winnipeg reappointed as MAST representative. All serve until June 30 1982. The board administers teachers pensions under the Teachers Pensions Act and has seven cabinet appointed members with nominations from MTS and MAST.
The 1980 International Music Camp season wraps with a Thursday concert July 31 at 1 30 p m CDT. Forty handbell players perform a varied program of classics religious works and popular selections.
