MTS reviews charges after MSOS MAPO appeal
Manitoba Telephone System will propose changes to service connection charges and credit deposits to the Public Utilities Board after Legal Aid Manitoba on behalf of Manitoba Society of Seniors Inc and Manitoba Anti Poverty Organization intervened. Proposals include three monthly installments with a 1.70 financing fee, lower deposits for certain low income customers, and reserve policy changes to residential customers only.

Rainy morning could not dampen the Hamiota Day Parade with praise from organizers Mrs. Roy R. Howie and Mr. T. Delgaty. They commended the excellent manual entries and judged on research, noting staying power and dedication, with special commendation to the Hamiota Band. Winners include The 100th Monkey float for Peace, Patterson's Septic Service, Rebekahs and Odd Fellows, and the International Year of Peace honorable mention, plus top placers in horses bicycles and more. Manitoba Hydro received honorable mention among commercial entries. gratitude extended to participants and helpers from the Hamiota Pioneer Club Museum.

A Good Deed at Shoal Lake by the McConnells
Red McConnell and Ruth hosted a Toronto to Calgary traveler in need at McLean's Garage Shoal Lake. The guest sought shelter a bath and bed after car trouble while Ruth assisted with blistered hands from a poison exposure. They helped her reach Oak River Bank of Montreal and return to Shoal Lake for her car. The act is hailed as a lasting good deed.

Seven Houston families hold Kenton reunion in Souris
The Houston children and relatives gathered July 5 in Victoria Park Souris for a family reunion with sixty of eighty three attending. Hostess Jannette Gerow set a birthday party mood with color coded hats, decorated cakes and family tree place mats. Marion Kent and Jean Daniel shared grace and memories, while Jack served as master of ceremonies.
