Manitoba Hydro unveils a Farm Safety Demonstration at the Hamiota Fair showing a grain auger and robot to teach safe handling near overhead lines. A Hydro safety rep will demo July 16 with tips on minimum 9 metre clearances for barns granaries bales and hay stacks. Free Look-up and Live decals and a booklet Electrical Safety Around the Farm are available at the display.
Hamiota Centennial Park hosts the Provincial B Girls Midget Baseball Tournament on July 18 and 19. Saturday’s schedule includes games between Winnipeg Youth Hartney River East Hamiota Carman Boni Vital Elkhorn and River East 2, with a final line at 5:00 pm. Sunday’s play depends on Saturday results as locals urge support for the Hamiota team.
The Annual Robinson Reunion gathered 38 relatives on July 1 1987 at the Murray and Carole Sangster family farm north of Brandon. Attendees included Edna Robinson Sangster and her son Harvey, Bonnie Sangster Kenton Albert Mae Sangster and families, Eldon Robinson, Brad Wardine, Alice Robinson and cousin Myrtle Bird of Campbell River BC. Meals, church service at Shiloh Church, and plans for next year marked a pleasant day with thanks for a well kept church.
Hamiota Red Sox move to 14 2 atop standings after a 4-2 victory over second place Binscorth Orioles on July 9. Donato Salinas improves to 9 0 while Wal ly Trice drops to 0 1 this stretch. Dean Westburg tops Orioles with 3 hits and 2 runs. Hamiota’s four sixth inning runs come with two RBIs from Blaine Heapy and Dennis Nychuck. Bench incident in first inning leads to ejections including Kerry Lowe Sargeant Paradine and Al Robertson.
Hamiota Seniors Council Inc. secures provincial grant and hires Ethel Robertson as Resource Coordinator. The program helps seniors and disadvantaged residents stay in their homes by arranging help with repairs lawn care housework alterations and social visits. Office hours 1 00 pm to 5 00 pm Monday to Friday with peak contact 1 00 pm to 2 30 pm.
On July 8 twenty residents joined a McPhail tour tracing Rough Rider Country from Estevan to Medora North Dakota. They toured Theodore Roosevelt National Park, visited Trapper's Kettle Belfield and Medora attractions including the Medora Musical and Burning Hills Singers. The trip, via Garrison Dam and Minot, highlighted Medora's history and the Marquis de Mores era.
