Winnipeg Children’s Hospital Book Market marks 30th annual sale
LENORE-Lenore Women's Institute collected books for the Children’s Hospital Book Market. A record sum of 170596.10 was raised, up 20000 over last year. Proceeds support pediatric medical research and health care at Winnipeg’s Children’s Hospital. A 140000 cheque was given to the Children’s Hospital Research Foundation. Two more cheques of 10000 each went to the Book Corner in Children’s Hospital and the Child Protection Centre to renovate two preschool playrooms used to interview young children suspected of abuse. Book Market Chairperson Pat Bjarnason praised 400 volunteers who worked 1155 four hour shifts and others who sort and price year round. Books are already flowing in for next year. Hamiota-Kenton Transfer carried the books to Winnipeg free of charge.
