Real job creators in Canada are small to mid sized firms
A Canadian Federation of Independent Business study shows 1970 to 1976 growth in jobs came from Canadian controlled manufacturing firms, especially those with 100 to 199 employees, while U S controlled firms and other foreign entities shed workers. Manufacturing output rose 112 percent, and foreign firms would have added $9.2 billion in shipments if they matched Canadian firms. The piece argues for policy focus on smaller firms as the key to future employment.
