Golden Age Club Meeting Opens A Healthy Start For Year
Twenty six members plus many visitors attended the Golden Age Club meeting at the Miniota Community Centre on January 18. Dennis Decker of Hamiota gave an hour long skating demonstration and Centennial Parade pictures were reviewed. Margaret Leary opened, Jean Cook read birthday names, February meeting set for Miniota Drop-In Centre, yearly fees accepted with two new members. Tea, chat and a generous pot luck lunch followed. Albums of Centennial pictures were available for interested members.

Nomination meeting planned in Minnedosa for NDP candidate
The Portage Marquette NDP Election Committee will hold its second constituency nomination for the federal election at the Legion Hall in Minnedosa on February 3. Gary Grant of Minnedosa is a leading candidate, while Maude Leland, a former Portage Marquette candidate, gave no comment on challenging the nomination. Les Benjamin MP Regina East, the NDP transportation critic, is slated as guest speaker on freight rate concerns.

Oak River 4-H Club convenes meet at Oak River Junior High
On January 16 Oak River 4-H met at Oak River Junior High with 28 members. They pledged the 4-H salute, reviewed last meeting minutes and treasurer reports, and planned a bonspiel at Oak River Rink inviting other clubs. They also assigned a rink to attend the Harding Bonspiel in Kenton on January 21 and set dates for future events including achievement night in April and a family night in March.

Personal care homes charge to increase
Health Minister L L Desjardins announced an increase in the daily residential charge for personal care homes from 12.85 to 13 dollars, applying to all residents and to patients in hospitals awaiting admission. The raise, 15 cents per day, is set to take effect February 1, 1984, one month after rises in Old Age Security pensions and Guaranteed Income Supplements.

The Kenton minor hockey event on January 14 15 featured 12 and under Pee Wees and 10 and under Ice Mites. Reston Pee Wees won the A trophy donated by Kenton Meat Processors Oak Lake Pee Wees won the B trophy from Kenton Motors. Rapid City Ice Mites beat Oak Lake for A and Kenton Ice Mites beat Rivers for B. Trophies were given by Kenton Credit Union and Whytes Lumber and Insurance.
